A trio, a quintet, a septet, and more, the 3.5.7 Ensemble is a jazz/improvisational/creative music collective.  The group has many different shades and many different colors.  It is large, loud, small and subtle.

The 3.5.7 Ensemble has a vast repertoire of original compositions covering a wide range of jazz, Avant-Garde and other creative music styles. Additionally, the band is well versed in jazz standards as well as lesser known, extended form, and free form compositions by artists such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Ornette Coleman.

Comprised of Chicagoland musicians, the core of the ensemble is a quintet featuring Nick Anaya on Sax, James Davis on Trumpet, Tim Stine on Guitar, Chris Dammann on Bass, and Dylan Andrews on Drums. The group will often expand to a septet or larger in order to present original large ensemble works as well as fully voiced works of the Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington. Conversely, the ensemble sometimes shrinks to focus on original trio works as well as renditions of classic trio albums such as Sonny Rollins’ Freedom Suite or Albert Ayler’s Spiritual Unity. Hence it is the expansion and contraction from a Trio to a Septet that the ensemble takes its name.

A history of playing a diverse range of music, combined with an emphasis on cohesive ensemble interplay, has given the group a truly refreshing and personalized sound. The 3.5.7 Ensemble works endlessly to properly represent and renew the music of those who came before, while adhering to the adventurous, explorative, and creative attitude that gave birth to this beautiful art form.

The Ensembles versatility, along with its high caliber of musicianship, allows the group to play music that is meaningful and complementary to almost any gathering, event, or venue.
